Floating Shelf

Posted: August 1, 2011 in Woodworking

Well i finally got the floating shelf built. Like most of my projects it is made from salvaged wood. This particular piece is made from mahogany and some pine. I know some people will read that and this its a crime to combine those woods but remember the point is to salvage otherwise useless woods for a fine piece of furniture. This particular piece will call for a aged looking finish like many of my pieces. I have gone ahead and used various tools to distress the wood. I like to use a hammer, chisels, nail sets, awls, wire brush, and a torch. After that i applied a coat of a very red stain. It may seem to be a bit much but once the piece is glazed and distressed further the tones will balance out. Check back daily for more updates on the project.
